Ponds
The farm has 2 ponds. The first
pond is the “Run-Off” or “Fish” pond, located a short distance east,
and down hill, from the barn. This pond depends on natural water
shed to keep it filled. The pond is small but deep, with a bottom
depth ranging from 12 ~ 15 ft. This pond is stocked with Catfish,
Blue Gill, Sun Perch and Crappie - we did not stock with Bass since
they will eat most of the other fish. With all the fish and the
water shed, its usually murky and not as clear as the other pond.
Near the fish pond is a small service building where fish food,
equipment and supplies are kept to service the ponds.

The second pond is known as the
“Spring-Fed” pond. As its name implies, while it is a man-made body
of water, it is fed by a natural spring directly below the pond. In
this pond the water is crystal clear, and like the Fish pond is very
deep, appearing black in the deepest areas On this pond one can find
turtles sunning, large Blue Heron’s and occasionally owls, crows and
deer drinking from it.

This pond is located several
hundred yards north of the fish pond. Because this pond is fed from
both a spring and water shed, it has an overflow drain built into
the damn to control maximum water level. The overflow exits into a
creek below the damn and forms a part of the natural spring creek
that flows under the road and on to the next parcel of land on the
other side of the road. In the spring and fall when seasonal rains
are at the highest, this spring creek is often at or above road
level.
